May I become.....

Here's a poem written by a group of students from a meditation and Buddhist class that I teach to children.

May I become……..

 

May I become a house for the homeless,

A blanket to keep them warm,
A bed for those that need rest,
And, a soft pillow so they can sleep.

May I become a lake for people to drink from,

A plate of food for those who are hungry.
A bee for people to have honey,
And, a tree for those seeking shade.

May I become a friend for people who are lonely,

A doctor to help someone sick or hurt,
A school for those who need to learn,
And a bell if there needs to be an evacuation.

May I become an island for one who is drowning,

A light for those in the dark,
A forest for those needing shelter,
And a rainbow for people that don’t have sun.

May I become a hamster, tiger or lion for someone who doesn’t have a pet,

An ice-cream for people who need to lick something,
A heater in case they are freezing cold,
And, a toy for someone who doesn’t have any.

May I become a Martian for an astronomer who believes,

A bath for people to wash in,
A bridge for those that need to cross the water,
And, money for those without.

May I become the one who brings joy,

The one that calms the angry,
A protector of the world,
A Buddha so that I can bring peace and harmony.

May I become Enlightened.
