Burqas in Bondi, Bourke, Bexley, Broome, Balmoral, Berry................

The front page of todays Herald shows a group of burqa wearing women at a rally to protest over Fred Nile's proposal to ban the burqa which was overruled. What an emotive issue and one that makes me wonder and question and not be able to come up with an answer. It's all about familiarity, what we are used to and what seems different or strange to us. I think the bottom line is simply acceptance of each other and knowing that we all want the same thing - to be happy - and that we all go about it in our different ways. The article has some women at the rally criticising western values which is really the same thing that they are protesting about but in reverse. Seems to me like the best thing is just to know that we are all doing our best to live our lives with meaning and to let each other do that in peace expressing ourselves however we see fit. For some reason we always want to take sides and make things us and them when we are all in this together and it seems more useful and positive to focus on our common goals rather than get caught up in judging each other for our differences. Let's leave each other in peace to wear whatever we like be that burqas or bikinis or birkenstocks or ballet shoes or blue and white striped tops (these seem to be in fashion) or brown cords or blue jeans or you get the idea...........anything starting with "b" or whatever we want........take it easy, K.xx
